What is Sin Moo Hapkido?Hapkido is among others, created by Dojunim Ji Han-Jae (10th Dan and founder of Sin Moo Hapkido). When Ji Han-Jae went to the USA in 1984, he founded his own new style called Sin Moo Hapkido. The result is one of the most extensive, unique and versatile self defense techniques among all martial arts.
These self defense techniques contain joint locks, pressure points, punching, kicking, blocking, dodging, grips, bars, strangles, throwing, fall breaking, foot sweeps, ground fighting, weapons, meditation and healing treatment. As so many martial arts from the east, Sin Moo Hapkido embodies the merge of the mind and the soul; the drive to perfection of the human character. In comparison to most martial arts, Sin Moo Hapkido uses more than 1100 essential techniques which can be altered on sense and combined. This makes it possible to create thousands of variations. The self defense techniques are characterized by a constant flow of movement; joint locks, pressure points, throws, kicks punches, blocks. This constant movement of flowing circles is created to bend off the power of the opponent. The tactics change constantly between hard attacks and absorbing defenses, using the whole of your own body and that of the opponent. The development of the inner strength (chi) is fundamental in all training programs. The better use of chi will help to use less energy at self defense and is beneficial for the well-being. Sin Moo Hapkido techniques are also being used for meditation and healing, which could lead to emotional stability, spiritual relaxation and self confidence. The same effects on the well-being are found in the Thai Chi Chuan and Qi-Gong styles. All this making Sin Moo Hapkido a very practical art of self defense with a strong sense of spirituality. |
Today Hapkido is used mainly for self defense, personal health and spiritual growth. Although often compared to Aikido, Teakwondo, Jiu Jitsu, Judo and Tai Chi Chuan, Sin Moo Hapkido has a wider scale of techniques suitable for more different situations under many circumstances. This makes this style accessible for everyone, regardless age, body shape, sex, personality and life style. Sin Moo Hapkido is practiced by men, woman and children of all ages. But also by those who are driven by sports in general, those who want to relax after a days work, those who are physical weaker and those who seek more self confidence. This martial art is also trained by health care employees, the police and the army. Sin Moo Hapkido is currently trained in over 100 countries and is still expanding. It is introduced in the Benelux by Rony Dassen, president of the Belgian-Dutch Sin Moo Hapkido Association. The European Community of Sin Moo HapkidoThe European Community of Sin Moo Hapkido (ECSH) is an official organization for the development of Sin Moo Hapkido. The purpose of this Community is the idea of close cooperation between people and organizations who are studying Sin Moo Hapkido not only in Europe but worldwide. The ECSH works together with the European Sin Moo Hapkido Association (ESMHA). What does Sin Moo Hapkido mean?Sin means "will" or "spirit". Moo means "fighter". Together with Hapkido it means "harmony and coordination of the will, the body and the mind". Or as Dojunim Ji, Han-Jae tends to say it: "Sin Moo Hapkido is simply a higher technology in the art of self defense, a style that needs more inner training then physical training and power". This can be achieved by meditation and Dan-Jun breathing.
